Naah, not before the end of the year. Probably, with CCPs track record, some time around summer next year.

Just for the record...

DX10 WIll never be made for XP

Its just about the only thing Vista has going for it.

Its just about the only thing Vista has going for it.

hence why its not coming to XP, they need to sell that CRAP called Vista

Have you people who are slating Vista actually tried it?

From my experience so far, most people who slag it off haven't even used it. I went into it with open eyes and was pleasantly surprised by how good it is and how well it runs.

I agree with Feek. I have Vista on my laptop and I haven't had a problem with it yet. All of the 'bugs' I've read about don't seem to be affecting me. It runs quickly, boots in about a minute and has been very stable. I use my laptop for RTS games (EVE is installed too) and they play great. I don't see why all the hatred.

Lee Mina
17th July 2007, 17:46
I have it installed on one of my laptops and cant say I like it very much, sure it is a bit mor e"polished" than XP but overall it is just to much MS "userfriendlyness" everywhere.

But i'll eventuelly learn to atleast like when I'm forced to bye all the cool new DX10 games are actually woth the shift

And besides, I have plenty of programs that Vista warns for compability issues, these applications are from Microsoft , SQL server Visual Studio to name two from the top of my head.

Tomcatt
17th July 2007, 22:25
I have Visual Studio and SQL Server myself; hence why my desktop is still XP. You'd think MS would make their Dev Studio compatible with their newest OS.

I slate it soley on the "principles" MS have imposed on it - ala DX10 for cornering/monopolising the gaming market (even more than it already is) and nigh on forcing everyone who already uses existing MS applications to upgrade because they are "incompatible." There are also some technical issues for developers I am not chuffed with, either.

I also slate it for being a hog for resources :p Undoubtedly I will eventually use it. I like gaming too much.

Come September most of the anoying bugs should be fixed.
However as operating systems go Vista is good, just has a few bugs most of them microsoft caused :frustrated:

ive helped vista users, can seem to notice much difference you just need a more power ful pc to use it for same performance, and having to enter your password when ever you change settings is just annoying.

Vista:

You need a powerfull pc: durr, it's a new OS. I remember that XP was hard for my pc when that came out. PC's nowadays are dirt cheap! You can almost get a dualcore for the price of a Celeron..
DX10 is vista only: So what. You don't see BMW implement their elite new sidetrack sattelite sonar system (ssss) in an old car either. You can run dx10 games with dx9 and gf8800.
Vista hogs your resources: So what. New systems have enough resources. Besides, last time I checked, Vista only effectively used 250 MB of RAM. Or was it 150...
Programs/Drivers that aren't compatible with Vista: Shit happens and as was with XP, they will come.
The security messages get on your tits, but they can be disabled.

But as has been with all other Windows versions, just dont use it untill they have at least 1 service pack ready. By that time, most important software companies will have their products Vista capable also.

Pete, DX10 Vista only cannot be compared to some shenanigans on a car. If I wanted to, I could fit an equivalent on my 16 year old Renault Clio. DX10 on anything but Vista? No.

The courts are fining MS for Monopolisation due to such activities as DX10 inavailability on other platforms. I'm not the only one who disagrees with their tendencies ;) However MS are just swallowing up the fines as it is pocket change to them.

Also, as for "resources being available cheap" that is irrelevant. I don't slate it solely for using a lot of resources, I slate it for using a lot of resources for what it does. My gentoo setup I used to run on my AMD2700+ 1GB ram shuttle with a 9800pro had just as many fancy gizmo's as Vista, infact probably more, which used a massive total of 68mb ram at idle on desktop. Cassisus' screen shots of the RTM version showed a colossal 650mb usage with nothing running.

I also slate them for not introducing anything new. New being the operative word - nothing "new" in Vista is new. It's all ideas from other platforms taken to make Vista more pretty. Under the skin, Vista is also still not new; it's XP with a new skin and a few tweaks. The UI is just about the only thing changed; not just graphically I do add.

As for developer gripes, if I (as a developer) wanted to develop a system to run as a service, I would need to pay MS to digitally sign my applications certificate so that it can run as a service, or low level process (i.e. run as anything but the user) the price tag for these certificates last I heard was $850US.

EDIT: doh, wrong os mentioned.

I think the court shouldn't whine so much. They made a new product and with that come some advantages. :emo:

jeNK
18th July 2007, 10:34
And monopolisation, which is against the law... I'll state it clearly, I do not have issues with MS making a new product. I do have issues with MS (or anyone) making a product that makes life difficult for people to use without having to buy various other upgrades (software, and in some cases hardware.) I also have issues when said product aims to corner sectors of the market, removing the ability for competitor products to compete. If they just released Vista as an OS that kicks the crap out of other OS's I'd have no problem at all. They haven't done that. They've released an OS that just denies others the ability to compete.

Also please don´t use car analogies with PC stuff.

If cars were PCs then by now we´d be flying to the moon and back in them, powered by Mr.Fusion waste disposal blenders. ;)

:)

Oldie (->5.) but a goodie. Actually XP is the 1st really decent OS from MS IMHO. No real need to OSupgrade.
Shows why they have to stoop to blackmail (DX10 & DRM) to persuade the users to change.

alfredhitchcok
19th July 2007, 01:23
well its a pain here in the 3rd world if you cant buy a cheap decent pc as they cripple it with vista when XP would do the job $300 (rough price of a v.cheap new pc) is a lot of money if you are living on $90 a month. and that's if you get the minimum wage here. so current suggestion is buy then downgrade it to XP which most people don't know how to. and is a lot of effort.

Also, Wasteland FTW.

Given the choice of Windows 2000 or XP, I'd choose 2000 every time. XP was like Fisher Price Windows or 'My First Windows'.

I was going to say 2k was my preference, too.

Yeah, that´s because you´re all geeks.

Of course 2k has better Networking etc. but from a consumer standpoint XP wins hands down. Much less hassle with drivers and game support, stuff like that.

Spoon Flux

the only reason i switched from 2k to xp was the built-in zip support. period.

Montezuma's revenge ftw!!! I thought I was the only person in existence that's ever played that

Commodore 64 FTW!!!!!! Don't forget the best computer system to ever come out, and for some reason go under even though it's technologies were years ahead of PC-Based and Apple based systems.

Lee Mina

Best game from way back is Bards Tale I for me, can't coutn the hours spent infront of that game.

TBH C64, Amiga might have been the technological superiors of pc but so was Beta Max to VHS and so on.....

It's all about what the market chooses and who can play the market best
